Brought to you by the Depression Is Real Coalition, The Down &
Up Show is dedicated to the reality of depression. Each week our
hosts will talk with some of the world's top experts on depression,
as well as people who have been impacted by this illness. The reality
of depression is that it is a debilitating and potentially deadly
medical condition that affects more than 15 million Americans every
year. The other reality of depression is that there is hope.

Associate Research Scientist
Division of Chronic Disease Epidemiology
Dr.
BarryÕs primary research interests are functional status and quality
of life in older persons and psychosocial influences on health outcomes,
particularly among those with cardiovascular disease. Her secondary
research interest is the epidemiology of gender differences in aging.
As a Brookdale Leadership in Aging Fellow, Dr. Barry is evaluating
the potentially reciprocal relationship between depression and disability
over time in light of emerging knowledge regarding the highly dynamic
nature of disability in older persons.
